On 30th May 2024, Mercy House held its very first Completion Ceremony, with 13 young women commonly referred to as Life Learners, making the Class of 2024. Their journey to the finish line was far from traditional, yet they made it! These young women faced several challenges along their journey; some enormous pressure from family to reconsider their enrollment at Mercy House, while others had accommodation and personal challenges that threatened their continuity on the program. Therefore, it was such a joy to celebrate their achievement!
The most joyful part of this auspicious occasion was to see God’s transformation in the lives of our pioneering Life Learners!
We heard testimonies of how God stepped into the lives of these young women through this program. Memory spoke of how she now feels loved, commissioned, and adopted into God’s kingdom, and that she now sees her three (3) kids as a blessing because of the discipleship classes. Abigal spoke of the healing from bitterness and resentment of her father and the new hope of running a poultry farm which would enable her to provide for her family. Indeed, God is more than able to redeem our past and give us a new identity in Him; for He restores us and conforms us to the image of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Alongside these young women, were mentors – older women who volunteered to walk with each one of them in navigating life, and how to run a small business. We are grateful to our Class of 2024 Mentors (Ann Shaba, Joyce Yombwe, Mercy Millapo and Nivern Kapalaula) who tirelessly spent 1 year 2 months with these girls and taught them the Word, life and business practice.
Upon completion, each young woman is now called a Woman of Mercy; equipped with the Word of God, the sword of the Spirit; shield of faith and running her personal micro-business. We thank God for His provision of business grants enabling them to become micro-business owners.
To all friends and partners of Mercy House who continue to give their talents, time and treasure towards the various Mercy House programs, your investment made it possible for these young women to experience God’s steadfast love, and renewed mercies!
To God be the Glory! Translated in Bemba as “Senda Ubukata we Lesa!”
Congratulations Graduates!
